Yuvraj ignored for World cup 2015, is this the end of  the road?: Yuvraj Singh the hero, the king of sixers, Yuvi Strong are all synonyms to this man in Indian cricket who played a major role for India to win the ICC cricket world cup 2011 and in the end was declared the Man Of the Tournament for his overwhelming performance both with the bat and the ball. It was him who gave the skipper Dhoni to maneuver  around with other bowlers and whenever he was handed over the ball responded with a wicket or two.

Yuvraj who fought cancer during and post the victorious world cup in 2011, made a successful comeback to the team, but was soon dropped due to lack of fitness and form and since then has not been able to make it back into the Indian cricket team.

Yuvraj last appeared for India in the ICC World T20 finals against Sri Lanka where poor batting form costed India crucial moments in the finals. But, since then he has tried his best to get fit and at the moment does look fit. He had a good opportunity in the Ranji season to showcase his form and he did that as well with 520 runs in the 3 matches that he has played for Punjab averaging well over 100.

News of Ravindra Jadeja who is currently unfit not making it in time for the world cup did rounds the last week thus prompting Yuvraj’s name back in the fray. Otherwise Yuvi has completely been off the radar of the BCCI and it was no surprise when he was dropped from the list of players contracted by the Indian cricket board annually.

Thus, it was a remote chance of him getting selected in the 15 despite of his mention not being there in the squad of 30. As a provision of the ICC allows such inclusion the probability was towards unachievable and so did happen. The selectors overlooked Yuvraj Singh for the 15 members squad for ICC cricket world cup 2015 and thus ending speculations.

Young left arm spinner and all-rounder Axar Patel has been picked along with Jadeja. Jadeja was a part of the 2011 team as well which makes Axar the guy to replace Yuvi. Axar shot to fame from illustrious performance for the KXIP and continued to impress in the ODI’s against Sri Lanka where he emerged as the leading wicket taker. A cool head with the bat gave him the all-rounders tag and in the last 6 months has done enough to make it to the World Cup 2015 squad. His age is the biggest asset as someone who is only 20 years will be in a much better position to perform than the 33 years old Yuvraj.

Though Yuvi himself had said earlier that it would not be the end of his world if not selected in the world cup team but, it will be really tough for someone who guided the team to victory in the previous championship to not find himself a part of the current lot.

But he has time and again shown the fighter that he is, if he can beat a life threatening cancer he can as well live with this adverse call. His priorities now should be to play Ranji cricket to full potential and make every attempt to prove that though not considered he continues to have the worth of being a part of the Indian cricket team again.

Ravindra Jadeja is recovering from a shoulder injury but if he is not fit in time for the World Cup - starting February 14, Yuvraj Singh may become the best replacement due to his good form in domestic cricket.

Veteran India batsman Yuvraj Singh may yet find a place in the team's World Cup squad. After beingomitted from the 30-man probables list announced last month, the left-handed batsman's name may come back into reckoning with Ravindra Jadeja nursing an injured shoulder.

As per a report by Hindustan Times, MS Dhoni is said to have taken up the name of former Australian batsman, Michael Hussey, to replace Duncan Fletcher as the coach of the Indian unit. Fletcher's contract expires after the ICC Cricket World 2015. With India, time and again putting up a poor show away from home, the chances of his contract being renewed is slim.
Fletcher took over the mantle of coaching the set up from Gary Kirsten after India won the coveted World Cup title in 2011. However, despite having the credentials of guiding England through a tough period during the last decade, Fletcher hasn't been able to lift Indian team's performances especially, while playing overseas.
It was also reported that Dhoni's suggestion of replacing Fletcher with Hussey has been communicated to the top brass of BCCI. It is believed that Dhoni rates Hussey for his tactical ability and man-management skills. In addition to be being tactically sound, it is said that Hussey helped out Murali Vijay to tweak his game and in turn, Vijay tasted success in Australia. Dhoni and Hussey were teammates for a longtime at Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
However, as the BCCI is going through a tough period, it may take time for Dhoni's suggestion to be accepted. BCCI, also in the past have consulted former cricketers like Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar before arriving at the decision of appointing a coach.

MS Dhoni has retired from Test cricket with immediate effect following the drawn Test against Australia at the MCG. Virat Kohli will take over as India captain for the final Test of the series, which India have already lost, in Sydney.

Dhoni was batting on 24 when the Test was called off early - four overs were left and India had four wickets in hand - and he made no mention of his retirement during the customary captain's press conference at the end of the match. The announcement was made via a BCCI press release shortly after and it cited "the strain of playing all formats" as the reason.

"One of India's greatest Test captains under whose leadership India became the No. 1 team in the test rankings, MS Dhoni, has decided to retire from Test cricket citing the strain of playing all formats of cricket," the board said. "BCCI, while respecting the decision of MS Dhoni to retire from Test cricket, wishes to thank him for his enormous contribution to Test cricket and the laurels that he has brought to India. Virat Kohli will be the captain of the Indian team for the fourth and final Test against Australia to be played in Sydney."

Though Dhoni's place in India's Test side has not been under question, his batting form took a dip in 2014 and he averaged only 33 in 17 innings this year. His wicketkeeping has also deteriorated, in particular his ability to move laterally to take testing catches. India's overseas results have also suffered under Dhoni's leadership in recent years. Since 2011, they have won only two out of 22 away Tests and lost 13.

Dhoni, however, is India's most successful captain, having presided over 27 wins in his 60-Test tenure, which began in 2008. His first Test as captain was against South Africa in Kanpur in April that year, because of an injury to regular captain Anil Kumble, and he took over full time after Kumble retired following the Delhi Testagainst Australia in October. Dhoni led India to the No. 1 Test ranking in 2009, a position they enjoyed until the tour of England in 2011.

Overall, Dhoni played 90 Tests in a career that began in 2005 and scored 4876 runs at an average of 38, with a high score of 224 against Australia in Chennai in 2013. As a wicketkeeper, he effected 294 dismissals, thefifth highest in Test cricket.

After widespread criticism of Virat Kohli bringing his girlfriend and Bollywood actress, Anushka Sharma, on the tour of England, the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to act on it, according to a report in the Indian Express.
According to the report, the BCCI is not going to allow girlfriends to travel along with the players henceforth and is also looking to restrict the duration players' wives come on tour.
"The England tour has been an eye-opener for everyone.
"From whatever information we have gathered, it has been seen that even if players wanted to focus on their cricket, their wives were being a big distraction.
When some wanted to go to the gym or do nets, they couldn't do so because their wives wanted to explore the city. So we have planned that after this England series, we will curb the number of days the wives spend with their husbands on tour," the report quoted a top BCCI official as saying.
The move is similar to the one followed by the England and Australian cricket boards which allow spouses to travel for a short while in a long tour overseas.
BCCI had allowed the wives of Murali Vijay, Ravichandran Ashwin, Stuart Binny, Cheteshwar Pujara and Gautam Gambhir to travel along in the England tour.
"These are some of the issues we wanted to address to see that the Indian team gets back on track. Whatever happened has happened, we want our boys to be more focused on their cricket from here on," said the BCCI source.
The Board has already cracked the whip on the coaching staff with a major overhaul done for the ODI series following a shoddy show by the Indian team in the last three Tests.

Murali Vijay avoids a bouncer from Dale Steyn. Vijay narrowly missed his 4th Test century by 3 runs as he was dimissed by Steyn for 97 on the second day of the second Test match at Kingsmead in Durban.

Dale Steyn on Friday struck thrice in the second session as he dismissed both the overnight batsmen Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara and also removed Rohit Sharma early as India reached 255 for 4 in 89 overs. Virat Kohli who scored a brilliant century and 96 in the first Test is batting on 38 along with Rahane on 16.

Pujara was dismissed for 70 and Vijay narrowly missed his 4th Test century by 3 runs as he was dimissed for 97. Steyn also dismissed Rohit Sharma for 0. Steyn's bowling has literally opened the shutters for this Test match.

Earlier, the start of the second day’s play in the second and final cricket Test between India and South Africa was delayed due to rain in Durban on Friday.

Play was to start half and hour earlier than scheduled after a curtailed opening day on Thursday.

Only 61 of the regulation 90 overs were bowled on the first day with India reaching 181 for one.

The two teams had played out a thrilling draw in the opening Test.

        N Srinivasan returns as India cricket chief

India's Supreme Court has reinstated N Srinivasan as chief of the country's cricket board.

He was forced to "step aside" in June after charges that his son-in-law and Chennai Super Kings team official Gurunath Meiyappan was involved in illegal betting in the IPL tournament.

Mr Srinivasan, 68, was re-elected as board chief last month, but the court did not clear him to take up the post.

Mr Srinivasan is widely regarded as the most powerful man in world cricket.

On Tuesday, the court also appointed a three-member panel, headed by a former judge, to investigate allegations of spot-fixing and betting during the Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty20 tournament.

"Srinivasan can take over as BCCI [Board of Control for Cricket in India] president, but we have also formed a new probe panel to investigate the case," Justice AK Patnaik, one of the two judges who heard the case, said on Tuesday.

Mr Srinivasan himself was not accused of any wrongdoing but he "stepped aside" temporarily as BCCI chief after his son-in-law was arrested.

Mr Meiyappan, who was later released on bail, was the team principal of the Chennai Super Kings, the IPL franchise owned by Mr Srinivasan's India Cements company.
